AbstractIn the contemporary technological environment, projects have been identified as crucial success drivers. Nevertheless, they frequently fail to achieve their objectives. Prior research has demonstrated that in a project organization, project identity is a central leadership mechanism that provides a useful means for examining and developing shared interests and objectives among project participants, as well as a tool for focusing on people as crucial success factors in project execution. However, the expanding corpus of conceptual and empirical research on project identity formation and maintenance in the field of project management does not include any in-depth examinations of project identity formation in a temporary organizational environment. This dissertation seeks to contribute to this literature by investigating how project-based organizations in the infrastructure and construction industries form and maintain project identities. The empirical results highlight the importance of the formation of project identity and maintenance in a temporary organizational environment. We captured four perspectives within project delivery processes relating to project identity formation and maintenance: project identity cornerstones and management in a multi-project environment, project identity formation in the early phase of collaborative projects, project identity and maintenance in the project execution period, and incorporating the project teams into the larger project identity and maintenance. see all
TiivistelmäNykyaikaisessa teknologisessa ympäristössä projektit on tunnistettu keskeisiksi menestyksen ajureiksi. Siitä huolimatta he eivät usein saavuta tavoitteitaan. Aikaisempi tutkimus on osoittanut, että projektiorganisaatiossa projekti-identiteetti on keskeinen johtamismekanismi, joka tarjoaa hyödyllisen välineen tutkia ja kehittää yhteisiä kiinnostuksen kohteita ja tavoitteita projektiin osallistujien kesken sekä työkalun keskittyä ihmisiin projektin toteuttamisen ratkaisevina menestystekijöinä. Laajenevaan projekti-identiteetin luominen ja ylläpidon käsitteellisen ja empiirisen tutkimuksen runkoon ei kuitenkaan projektijohtamisen alalla sisälly syvällisiä tutkimuksia projekti-identiteetin muodostamisesta väliaikaisessa organisaatioympäristössä. Tämä väitöskirja pyrkii täydentämään kirjallisuutta tutkimalla, kuinka infrastruktuuri- ja rakennusalan projektipohjaiset organisaatiot luovat ja ylläpitävät projekti-identiteettiä. Empiiriset tulokset korostavat projekti-identiteetin luomisen ja ylläpidon tärkeyttä tilapäisessä organisaatioympäristössä. Valitsimme neljä näkökulmaa projektien identiteetin luomiseen ja ylläpitoon liittyvissä projektitoimitusprosesseissa: projekti-identiteetin kulmakivet ja hallinta moniprojektiympäristössä, projekti-identiteetin muodostuminen yhteistyöprojektien alkuvaiheessa, projekti-identiteetti ja ylläpito projektin toteutusvaiheessa sekä projektitiimien sisällyttäminen laajempaan projekti-identiteettiin ja ylläpitoon. see all
