Tiivistelmä

Raskauteen liittyvät riskit alkavat kasvaa lineaarisesti 35 ikävuoden jälkeen. Ikääntyminen lisää alku- ja loppuraskauteen liittyvien ongelmien, synnytykseen liittyvien komplikaatioiden sekä vasta­syntyneen sairastuvuuden ja kuolleisuuden riskiä. Absoluuttiset riskit ovat pieniä, ja useimmiten raskaudet ja synnytykset sujuvat hyvin. Riskien kasvu näkyy erityisesti yli 40-vuotiailla ensisynnyttäjillä.

Abstract

Pregnancy and childbirth in mothers of advanced age

While the mean age of childbearing women is increasing worldwide, the proportion of mothers giving birth at advanced age is increasing. The definition of advanced maternal age varies in different studies, but there is evidence of a linear increase in adverse pregnancy outcomes after 35 years of age. Ageing increases the risks of early and late pregnancy complications, delivery complications and neonatal morbidity and mortality but the absolute risks are minor and most pregnancies and childbirths go well. Especially primiparas over 40 years of age are at risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes.
