Kandidaatintyössä käsitellään syöpää, sen syntyä ja hoitoa genetiikan näkökulmasta. Työssä käydään läpi syövän syntytapa, syövälle altistavat geenit kuten laajalti tunnetut BRCA1&2-rintasyöpägeenit, epigenetiikan suhde syöpään sekä uudet genetiikkaa hyödyntävät hoitomuodot onkolyyttinen virusterapia ja immunoterapia. Työn painotus on familiaalisessa syövässä.

The main subjects of this thesis are cancer, its initiation and treatment from a genetic point of view. The emergence of cancer, cancer susceptibility genes like BRCA1&2, the relation of epigenetics with cancer and new cancer treatments oncolytic virus therapy and immunotherapy are discussed. The emphasis is on familial cancer.
