Kosmopolitanismi on yksi vanhimpia ihmisyyttä ja elämää kuvaavia käsitteitä. Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitän, mitä kosmopolitanismi on. Tutkimuksen ensimmäisessä osassa selvitetään mitä käsite on tarkoittanut ennen ja miten se ymmärretään tänä päivänä, sekä kosmopoliittisen etiikan ja globaalikasvatuksen yhteyksiä tulevaa tutkimusta varten. Johdannon jälkeisessä tutkimuksen toisessa osassa perehdytään kosmopolitanismia käsittelevään aineistoon, jonka avulla määritellään mitä ovat kosmopolitanismi, kosmopoliitti, kosmopoliittinen teoria sekä kosmopoliittinen etiikka. Tutkimuksen kolmannessa osassa perehdytään Kwame-Anthony Appiahin kosmopolitanismin teoriaan. Teoria esitellään kolmea näkökulmaa (moraali, arvot & maailmankäsitys, kulttuuri) hyödyntäen. Tutkimuksen neljännessä osassa esitän johtopäätökseni siitä, miten tutkimuksessa läpikäydyt tekijät vaikuttavat toisiinsa, miten niistä käytetyt määritelmät eroavat toisistaan, sekä pohdin kuinka nuo tekijät näkyvät Appiahin kosmopolitanismin teoriassa.

Cosmopolitanism is one of the oldest concepts used to describe humanity and life. In this research, I will examine what cosmopolitanism is. In the first section of the research we will examine what the concept has meant in the past, how it is understood in the present, and what are the connections between cosmopolitan ethics and global education with future research in mind. In the section following the introduction we will look into material that discusses cosmopolitanism, with which we will then define cosmopolitanism, cosmopolite, cosmopolitan theory and cosmopolitan ethic. In the third section of the research we will examine the cosmopolitan theory written by Kwame Anthony-Appiah. The theory will be presented using three perspectives (morale, values & world view, culture). In the fourth section of the research I will present my conclusion on how the different factors discussed in this research affect one another, how the definitions used differ from one another, after which I will reflect on how those factors are visible in Appiah’s cosmopolitan theory.
