Tiivistelmä

Tämä tutkielma tutkii Aspergerin oireyhtymän ilmenemistä ja painottuu erityisesti tyttöihin. Tutkimus on rajattu peruskoulu ikäisiin tyttöihin. Tavoitteena on selvittää aiemman kirjallisuuden ja tutkimusperustan avulla, mitä Aspergerin oireyhtymä tarkoittaa, ja miten se diagnosoidaan sekä kuvata diagnoosin saaneiden tyttöjen yleisimpiä piirteitä. Lisäksi perehdytään erilaisiin tukikeinoihin, joiden avulla voidaan helpottaa AS-lasten koulunkäyntiä. Tutkimus pohjautuu aiempaan vertaisarvioituun kirjallisuuteen, tieteellisiin tutkimuksiin sekä diagnostiikkaan. Teoreettisena viitekehyksenä toimii siis aikaisemmista tutkimuksista nousseet tulokset sekä diagnostiikka. Tutkimusmenetelmänä toimii kuvaileva, eli narratiivinen kirjallisuuskatsaus, jonka tavoitteena on kuvailla ja käsitellä valittua aihetta tiivistäen aiempaa tieteellistä aineistoa.

ICD-10 luokituksen vaihtuessa ICD-11 luokitukseen vuonna 2022, tulee Aspergerin oireyhtymä (F84.5) poistumaan ja se yhdistyy isoon sateenvarjodiagnoosiin, autismikirjon häiriö. Tämä tutkimus käsittelee kuitenkin ICD-10 tautiluokituksen mukaista Aspergerin oireyhtymä ja sen ilmenemistä tyttölapsilla, sillä tutkimusaineisto käyttää tätä termiä.

Tutkimuksessa käsitellään yhtä tutkimuskysymystä, Mikä Aspergerin oireyhtymä on ja miten se ilmenee tyttölapsilla?

Aluksi käsitellään aiheen valikoitumista ja sen taustaa sekä tutkielman rakennetta. Tämän jälkeen kuvaillaan käytettyä tutkimusmenetelmää. Näiden vaiheiden jälkeen siirrytään tarkastelemaan tutkielman teoreettista viitekehystä sekä aineistoa, jotka koostuvat Aspergerin oireyhtymää käsittelevistä teoksista sekä tutkielman keskeisimpiä käsitteitä, joita ovat autismikirjon häiriö sekä Aspergerin oireyhtymä. Tutkimuskysymykseen pyritään vastaamaan mahdollisimman monipuolisesti teoreettisen viitekehyksen sekä tutkimusaineiston tarkastelemisen jälkeen. Tutkimuskysymykseen vastaamisen jälkeen perehdytään keinoihin, joilla AS-lapsia voidaan tukea peruskoulussa, jotta tutkimukseen saadaan myös pedagoginen näkökulma. Lopuksi tehdään johtopäätöksiä tutkimuskysymyksestä, eli käsitellään tutkimuksen tuloksia ja pohditaan esimerkiksi tutkimuksen validiteettia. Lisäksi esitetään erilaisia jatkotutkimusehdotuksia.

Asperger syndrome and girls in Asperger syndrome

Abstract

This thesis explores the occurrence of Asperger’s syndrome and how it occurs in girls. The study is limited to girls of primary school age. The goal is to find out, through earlier literature and research, what is Asperger’s Syndrome and how it is diagnosed, and to describe the most common features of girls who have been diagnosed. In addition, there are various support measures that can be used to facilitate the education of AS-children. Research is based on previous peer-reviewed literature, scientific research and diagnostics. The theoretical framework mainly consists of previous studies and diagnostics serve. The research method is a descriptive, or narrative, literature review, the purpose of which is to describe and deal with the chosen topic, summarizing previous scientific material.

As the ICD-10 rating changes to the ICD-11 rating in 2022, the Asperger’s Syndrome (F84.5) will disappear and be associated with a large umbrella diagnosis, the autism spectrum disorder. However, this study is focused on Asperger’s Syndrome and its manifestation among girls, according to ICD-10.

The research deals with one research question, How does Asperger’s Syndrome occur among girls?

The first part of the thesis outlines the basic concepts of research by describing background of the subject. The second part of the thesis consists of a theoretical framework that describes the symptoms of autism spectrum syndrome and the symptoms of Asperger’s syndrome. This is followed by an examination of the research topic, which aims to answer the research question posed in the most comprehensive way possible. After examining the research question, there are some ways to support the everyday life of AS-children in the school world. This thesis concludes with an analysis of the literature review, its results and its effects as a whole and further exploration of ideas.
