Tiivistelmä

Diplomityö on Hailuodon kunnan toimeksianto ja Oulun yliopiston Arkkitehtuurin yksikössä tehty suunnitelmapainotteinen työ, johon sisältyy selvitysosio. Diplomityö on tehty otsikolla ”Kansakoulurakennukset kulttuurin keskuksena Hailuodon kirkonkylällä: vanhan rakennuskannan historia, nykytila ja uudet käyttömuodot”. Diplomityön tekijä on määritellyt tutkimuskysymykset, työn etenemisen ja työn rajaamisen itsenäisesti. Työ kohdentuu Hailuodon kunnan kanssa sovittujen rakennusten arviointiin. Arviointi kohdistuu myös rakennusryhmää ympäröivän alueen kehittämiseen. Rakennusten uusien käyttömuotojen arviointi on tehty maankäytön suunnittelu ja kiinteistönomistajien intressit huomioiden.

Diplomityö koostuu kolmesta osasta: selvityksen historiaosio, selvityksen analyysiosio sekä arkkitehtoninen suunnitelma. Selvityksessä on käytetty kvalitatiivista tutkimusmenetelmää, jossa on kerätty aineistoa diplomityöhön valitusta rakennuskannasta. Aineisto on kerätty valtakunnallisista arkistoista olemassa olevaa aineistoa analysoiden (selvityksen historiaosio) sekä diplomityön tekijän toimesta kenttätyöskentelyä hyödyntäen (selvityksen analyysiosio: paikka-analyysi ja valokuvat). Diplomityössä on perehdytty ennen digitoimattomaan arkistomateriaaliin, jota tutkimalla ja analysoimalla on saatu uutta tietoa suunnittelualueen rakennuskannasta. Arkistomateriaalin käsin kirjoitetut, vanhaa käsialaa sisältävät osiot ovat kokonaan diplomityön tekijän tulkitsemia. Selvityksessä on saatu tulokseksi kattava tietopaketti diplomityössä tutkitusta rakennuskannasta. Selvitysosion tulokset esittelevät rakennusten historian, nykytilan sekä rakennusten arvon ja merkityksen Hailuodon kunnalle.

Diplomityössä otetaan kantaa suunnittelualueen historiaan, nykytilaan ja jatkokehittämiseen. Ote uusien käyttömuotojen suunnittelussa on ideointi ja luonnossuunnittelu. Diplomityössä ei oteta kantaa alueen lopulliseen toteutussuunnitelmaan tai tehdä tarkkoja arkkitehtonisia piirustuksia. Työn tekemisessä on ollut apuna asiantuntijoita, mutta päätelmät ovat diplomityön tekijän omia. Diplomityössä esitetty suunnitelma rakennusten jatkosuunnittelusta pohjautuu selvitysosioon. Suunnitteluperiaatteet nousevat selvityksessä tehdystä analyysista. Selvityksen johtopäätökset tukevat arkkitehtonista suunnitelmaa.

Historical school buildings acting as a cultural center in Hailuoto kirkonkylä : past, present and future of the historic building stock

Abstract

The Master’s thesis is a commission work for the Hailuoto Municipality that has been completed in the University of Oulu Faculty of Architecture. The thesis consists of a report and an architectural design based on the data presented in the report. The title of the thesis is “Historical school buildings acting as a cultural center in Hailuoto Kirkonkylä: past, present and future of the historic building stock”. The writer of the master’s thesis has defined the research plan independently. The building stock presented in this thesis has been selected in collaboration with the Hailuoto Municipality. The thesis centers on examining and evaluating the use of these buildings. The evaluation also takes into consideration the historic built environment surrounding the selected buildings. The change of use of the building stock has been planned taking into account both the land-use planning and the interests of the landowners.

The thesis is divided into three parts comprising the historical section of the report, the site analysis section of the report and the architectural design. In gathering data of the building stock for the analysis, the report uses qualitative research method. The data are gathered from the Finnish national archives analyzing the existing material (the historical section of the report) and utilizing the method of field research on the site (the site analysis section of the report). The writer of the thesis has discovered nondigitized archived material. Analyzing and examining that material new information has been found of the building stock in the planning area. The old handwriting has been interpreted by the writer of the thesis. As a result, the report presents a comprehensive amount of information of the building stock that is analyzed in the thesis.

The thesis covers the history, the present state, the value, and future development of the building site, but it does not include specific detailed architectural plans or a realization of these plans. The emphasis on the architectural plans in this thesis is drafting and presenting new ideas. Experts in the field have given valuable feedback and advice along creating the thesis. The novelty of ideas and observations are those of the writer. The architectural design presented in the thesis is based on the report sections. The design principles derive from the report analysis. The architectural design is supported by the conclusions of the report.
