Tiivistelmä

Diplomityöni on suunnittelupainotteinen työ, joka pohjautuu Hirsirakenteinen kaupunkiasunto -arkkitehtuurikilpailussa jaetun 1. palkinnon saaneeseen ehdotukseeni. Kilpailun tavoitteena oli löytää erilaisiin suomalaisiin kaupunkiympäristöihin sopivia uudenlaisia hirsitalomalleja. Kilpailuehdotukseni oli hirsirakenteinen townhouse-konsepti, jota olen tässä diplomityössä jatkokehittänyt luonnossuunnittelun tasolla.

Diplomityöni jakautuu kolmeen osaan, joista ensimmäisessä avaan lyhyesti townhouse- ja hirsirakentamisen taustoja sekä nykysuuntauksia. Lisäksi kerron tutkimuksiin pohjautuen suomalaisten tämänhetkisistä asumisen toiveista, sekä pohdin hirsiarkkitehtuurin soveltuvuutta nykyaikaiseen kaupunkikuvaan. Diplomityön toisessa osassa esittelen suunnittelemani townhouse-konseptin. Kolmannessa osassa esittelen luonnossuunnitelmien avulla konseptin soveltamista olemassa olevalla tontille, sekä sen esimerkkiasuntoja.

Suunnitelman tavoitteena on ollut löytää joustava ja muokattava modulaarinen konsepti, jonka arkkitehtuuri voidaan sovittaa erilaisiin kaupunkimaisiin ympäristöihin. Diplomityössä ei synny yhtä tyyppitalosuunnitelmaa, vaan se tarjoaa suunnitteluraamit, joiden avulla voidaan suunnitella konseptin mukaisia rakennuksia erilaisille tonteille. Konseptin tavoitteena on luoda puitteet asukaslähtöiselle ja viihtyisälle asuinrakentamiselle, joka on mittakaavaltaan sekä arkkitehtuuriltaan ihmisläheistä.

Log structured townhouse : adaptive city dwelling concept

Abstract

This is a design-oriented thesis based on my proposal, which won the shared 1st prize in the Log Structured Dwelling -architecture competition. The aim of the competition was to find new types of log dwellings suitable for different urban environments. My competition proposal was a log structured townhouse concept, which I have further developed in this thesis.

The thesis is divided into three parts, the first of which briefly opens the backgrounds and current trends of townhouses and log construction. In addition, based on studies, it presents the living desires of the Finns and examines the suitability of log architecture for the modern cityscape. In the second part of the thesis, I introduce the design for the townhouse concept. In the third part, I apply the concept design to an existing plot and present its apartments.

The aim of the design has been to find a flexible and adaptable modular concept whose architecture can be adapted to different urban environments. The thesis does not create a single design of a townhouse but provides design frameworks that can be used to design buildings according to the concept on different plots. The aim of the concept is to create a framework for comfortable residential construction that is people-oriented in terms of scale and architecture.
