Abstract

This thesis covers how the masses of stellar black holes and neutron stars can be determined and the challenges involved. The three main methods described are split into dynamical, scaling and spectra fitting methods. An example case for MAXI J1305-704 is covered in order to illustrate the dynamical methods.
