This thesis explores the lives and experiences of 10 migrant women as they navigate the process of integration. It aims to rekindle interest in the development of women-centred programming and service delivery, considering women’s unique and complex situations as migrants. Given that each woman’s integration journey is unique, service delivery and programming cannot be one-size-fits-all but must instead reflect this individual process. This thesis explores varied perspectives on migrant women and their integration processes through qualitative research methods. It also emphasizes migrants’ diversity and how their various qualities influence integration opportunities and problems. I was able to better understand the women’s experiences from their own perspective by combining perspectives from different women with varied educational backgrounds, different motivations for migration, and having lived in Oulu for a varying number of years.

Even though each woman’s experience was unique, the study found significant commonalities. Many of the women talked about how long it took them to obtain their residency rights and submit their paperwork. Another finding concerning the services was how disconnected the paperwork process was, which was echoed in all the interviews.
