Abstract

Ammonia is largely produced industrial chemical. The production emits a lot of carbon dioxide which is the reason there is a lot of interest for green carbon-free technologies. Most prominent of these technologies is water electrolysis combined with the Haber-Bosch synthesis.

This bachelor’s thesis is a literature review on both conventional and green ammonia production and five techno-economic studies on green ammonia. This thesis aims to study what affects green ammonia pricing, why the pricing estimates may differ, and what are its key variables. Green ammonia prices are also compared to global ammonia prices.

Green ammonia is found to be competitive to conventional ammonia. The pricing is affected by many factors. Among the variables, electrolyzers has the biggest impact on the green ammonia price thus it is recommended to focus on technological development in that area.
