Tiivistelmä

Diplomityöni Asuinympäristön julkisivuvärit — kaavoituksesta käyttäjään on tutkielmapainotteinen työ, jonka tavoitteena on syventää tietoa värin ja arkkitehtuurin suhteesta osana asuinympäristön suunnittelua ja kokemista. Työni tavoitteena on myös tuoda vähän tutkittu aihe osaksi arkkitehtuurikeskustelua. Lähestyn aihetta kirjallisen aineiston, ammattilaisten haastattelujen sekä omien havaintojeni ja kokemusteni kautta.

Työni jakautuu kahteen päälukuun, 1. Taustoitus ja 2. Tapaustarkastelu. Tapaustarkastelujen pohjana toimiva taustoittava osio käsittelee aiheita, jotka ovat nousseet esiin tapaustarkastelun analysoinnin eri vaiheissa. Taustoittavan osion ensimmäinen luku keskittyy eri tapoihin ja terminologiaan, miten väristä puhutaan niin ammatillisen kuin arkikielenkin kontekstissa. Tarkastelen luvussa myös diplomityöni keskeisiä käsitteitä. Osion toisessa luvussa käsittelen värien rinnastamisen kahta ilmiötä. Tarkastelen luvussa kontrastia ja harmoniaa arkkitehtuurin värisuunnittelun eri teorioiden, tutkimusten sekä omien havaintojeni puitteissa. Kolmannessa luvussa keskityn avaamaan värin ja arkkitehtuurin suhdetta Suomessa eri näkökulmien kautta. Luvussa tarkastelen tekijöitä, jotka ovat vaikuttaneet ja vaikuttavat edelleen suomalaisen arkkitehtuurin väritykseen. Tarkastelen myös väriä osana arkkitehtuuriopetusta. Lopuksi pohdin väriä arkkitehtuurin ilmiönä niin ammatillisen keskustelun puitteissa kuin suuremmalle yleisölle suunnatuissa medioissa.

Tapaustarkastelussa analysoin kahta eri asuinaluetta ja neljää asuinalueen kerrostaloa suunnitteluaineistojen, haastatteluiden ja havaintojeni kautta. Tuon myös asukkaiden näkökulmia aiheeseen liittyen esille, järjestämällä kyselyn asuinkerrostalojen asukkaille.

Facade colours in the residential environment : from planning to user

Abstract

My diploma thesis Asuinympäristön julkisivuvärit — kaavoituksesta käyttäjään is a thesis with the aim of deepening the knowledge of the relationship between colour and architecture as part of the design and experience of the built environment. My work also aims to bring a little-studied and neglected topic to the forefront of the architectural field. I approach the topic through written material, interviews with professionals and my own observations and experiences.

My work is divided into two parts, a theoretical and a case study. The case studies are based on a theoretical section of the thesis, the themes of which have arisen at different stages of the analysis of the case study. The first chapter of the theoretical section focuses on the different ways and terminology of communicating about colour in both professional and everyday language settings. At the same time, the chapter opens up the key terminology used in my work. The second chapter of the section deals with two phenomena of colour juxtaposition, contrast and harmony. The chapter opens up the relationship between these phenomena and architectural colour design through different theories, studies and my own observations. The third chapter focuses on the relationship between colour and architecture in Finland from different perspectives. The chapter opens up an understanding of what factors have influenced and continue to influence colour in Finnish architecture, how colour appears in architectural studies, and what kind of phenomenon colour as part of architecture is in both professional and general public media.

In the case study, I analyse two different residential areas and four apartment buildings in the residential areas through design materials, interviews and my own observations. I will also introduce residents’ perspectives on the topic by conducting a survey of the residents of the apartment buildings.
