Tiivistelmä

Joustavia esi- ja alkuopetuksen kokeiluja ja hankkeita on toteutettu Suomessa 1990-luvulta lähtien. Niiden avulla esi- ja alkuopetuksen välistä yhteistyötä on pyritty tiivistämään, sekä luomaan erilaisia joustavia opetusmenetelmiä ja -tapoja, joiden avulla lapsi voi edetä esi- ja alkuopetuksessa omaa taitotasoa vastaavalla tahdilla.

Sanna Marinin hallitusohjelma vuodelta 2019 asetti yhdeksi osaamisen ja sivistyksen tavoitteeksi lasten perustaitojen vahvistamisen esi- ja alkuopetusta yhtenäistämällä. Tämä käynnisti kunnissa joustavan esi- ja alkuopetuksen pilottihankkeita, joiden tavoitteena oli valtionavustuksen tuella kehittää esi- ja alkuopetuksen yhtenäisen opetuksen ja toiminnan suunnittelua, samalla tukien opettajien välistä yhteisopettajuutta.

Kyseessä oleva Pro gradu -tutkielma on laadullinen tapaustutkimus, jossa kuvataan erään Etelä-Suomalaisen kunnan joustavan esi- ja alkuopetuksen pilottihanketta lukuvuodelta 2022–2023. Tutkielman tavoitteena on selvittää mitkä tekijät vaikuttavat ja ohjaavat opettajien yhteistä joustavan esi- ja alkuopetuksen suunnittelua, toteuttamista ja arviointia, sekä minkälaista joustavan esi- ja alkuopetuksen toimintaa lukuvuoden aikana toteutettiin. Tutkielman tavoitteena on lisätä yleistä ymmärrystä joustavasta esi- ja alkuopetuksesta, samalla luoden ja avaten toimintatapoja, joiden avulla joustavaa esi- ja alkuopetusta on mahdollisuus toteuttaa.

Joustavalla esi- ja alkuopetuksella tarkoitetaan tässä tutkielmassa esiopetuksen, sekä ensimmäisen ja toisen luokka-asteen välistä yhteistyötä ja joustavia toimintatapoja. Tutkielma luo kehyksen joustavalle esi- ja alkuopetukselle tarkastelemalla esi- ja alkuopetuksen toimintakulttuureita, toimintaympäristöjen, sekä moniammatillisen yhteistyön ja yhteisopettajuuden tuomien näkökulmien ja mahdollisuuksien kautta. Näiden pohjalta tutkimustuloksissa rakentuu joustavalle esi- ja alkuopetukselle omanlaisensa toimintamalli, jossa jokainen tekijä vaikuttaa kahdensuuntaisesti joustavan esi- ja alkuopetuksen rakentumiseen ja toteuttamiseen.

Flexible pre-primary and primary education : from planning to implementation

Abstract

Flexible experiments and projects in pre-primary and primary education have been carried out in Finland since the 1990s. They have aimed at closer cooperation between pre-primary and primary education, and at creating different flexible teaching methods and approaches that allow children to progress in pre-primary and primary education at a pace that matches their own level of proficiency.

Sanna Marin’s 2019 government programme set as one of the objectives of competence and civilisation the strengthening of children’s basic skills by harmonising pre-primary and primary education. This led to pilot projects for flexible pre-primary and primary education in municipalities, with the aim of developing integrated planning of teaching and activities in pre-primary and primary education, while supporting co-teaching between teachers.

The aim of the thesis is to find out what factors influence and guide the planning, implementation and evaluation of flexible pre-primary and primary education, and what kind of flexible pre-primary and primary education activities were implemented during the academic year 2022–2023 in a municipality in southern Finland. The aim of the study is to increase the general understanding of flexible pre-primary education, while at the same time creating and opening up practices that enable flexible pre-primary education to be implemented. This thesis is a qualitative case study describing a pilot project of flexible pre-primary and primary education in a municipality in Southern Finland during the school year 2022–2023. The aim of the thesis is to find out what factors influence and guide the planning, implementation and evaluation of flexible pre-primary and primary education, and what kind of flexible pre-primary and primary education activities were implemented during the school year. The aim of the study is to increase the general understanding of flexible pre-primary education, while at the same time creating and opening up practices that enable flexible pre-primary education to be implemented.

Flexible pre-primary and primary education in this thesis refers to the cooperation and flexible approaches between pre-primary, the first and the second grade. The thesis creates a framework for flexible pre-primary and primary education by examining the operational cultures of pre-primary and primary education, through the perspectives and possibilities of multi-professional cooperation and co-teaching. On this basis, the research results build a model for flexible pre-primary and primary education, where each factor contributes in two directions to the construction and implementation of flexible pre-primary and primary education.
